Workshop “Juggling Career and Family”: Support for Families in Research
In April, SFB 1607 hosted the workshop “Juggling Career and Family” led by Antje Rach of Worte & Wandel Coaching as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Gender Equality and Family-Work-Life Balance in Research. The event brought together early-career and senior researchers, who are already parents or are planning a family within the SFB to address the challenges and opportunities of balancing academic careers with family life.
The workshop provided a platform for open discussion, experience sharing, and practical guidance on navigating dual responsibilities in academia. Topics included career planning, parental leave, institutional support structures, and strategies for maintaining work-life balance.
The workshop was very well received by SFB parents as well as PhD researchers who are planning to start families. The positive response highlights the strong demand for structured support mechanisms that enable researchers to successfully combine professional development with family commitments. Participants particularly valued the creation of an intimate and safe space, the presence of a warm and approachable workshop leader, and the atmosphere of very open communication and strong mutual support.
By organizing events such as this workshop, the SFB 1607 continues to foster an inclusive and supportive research environment, reinforcing its commitment to gender equity and family-friendly academic structures.
