Visit by Prof. Dr. Stephanie Joachim and PD Dr. Sabrina Reinehr at SFB 1607
SFB 1607 was delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Stephanie Joachim and PD Dr. Sabrina Reinehr from the Experimental Eye Research Institute, Ruhr-University Bochum, as our guests. In their inspiring talks, both researchers provided in-depth perspectives on immune-mediated mechanisms in glaucomatous neurodegeneration.
Prof. Joachim presented her lecture “Immune-mediated pathogenesis in glaucoma”, highlighting how antibodies and immune processes contribute to retinal ganglion cell damage. PD Dr. Reinehr followed with “How inflammation drives glaucomatous neurodegeneration”, emphasizing the role of inflammation in neuronal loss independent of intraocular pressure.
Their pioneering work contributes significantly to our understanding of neuroimmunological mechanisms in ophthalmology. The visit fostered stimulating discussions and fruitful scientific exchange within the SFB 1607 community.
We sincerely thank Prof. Joachim and PD Dr. Reinehr for their visit, their excellent presentations, and the inspiring conversations that followed.
