SFB 1607 researcher awarded 3rd place at the DOG pura Award for sustainability in ophthalmology

We are delighted to share that Dr. Karina Hadrian, project leader of subproject A04 within the Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) 1607, together with PD Dr. Sabrina Reinehr from the Experimental Eye Research Institute, University Eye Clinic Bochum, received third place at the 2025 DOG pura Award.

The DOG pura Award, initiated by the Stiftung Auge, recognizes innovative ideas for ecological sustainability in ophthalmology. This year’s award honored four particularly promising projects selected by an expert jury chaired by Prof. Dr. Gerd Geerling.

Their project, “Lab4Future – Researching sustainably”, aims to reduce resource consumption in research laboratories by improving energy efficiency of -80°C freezers, reusing single-use lab materials, implementing effective waste separation, and gradually switching to sustainable lab products.

At SFB 1607, sustainability is not just an ideal but a shared responsibility. We are proud that our researchers’ commitment to greener science has been acknowledged by the DOG. This award encourages us to continue shaping research environments that are innovative and sustainable — because the future of science depends on both.
