SFB 1607 congratulates the Sustainability Working Group on winning the 2025 Cologne University Sustainability Award
The award in this category went to the Sustainability Working Group of the Faculty of Medicine, led by Dr. Tomo Saric, the faculty’s sustainability officer. The award recognizes the exceptional commitment of the group’s approximately 89 members, who systematically integrate sustainability-oriented approaches into research, teaching, and everyday clinical practice. As part of its efforts, the working group held an on-site workshop at TEO-C in April 2026 in collaboration with the Integrated Graduate School of SFB 1607 and developed concrete approaches for more sustainable practices in laboratory work.
The working group takes a holistic approach: In addition to raising awareness of sustainable practices in healthcare, it implements concrete projects directly on-site. At the same time, it creates an interdisciplinary network that brings together different perspectives and promotes continuous exchange and collaborative learning.
With this award, the university underscores the growing importance of sustainability in the medical field and recognizes the impetus provided by the working group for the further development of a sustainable healthcare system.
