SFB 1607 Clinician Scientist Nihan Demiralay wins DOG Poster Award
We are thrilled to congratulate Nihan Demiralay (second from left), Clinician Scientist at the SFB 1607, for receiving a Poster Award at this year’s German Ophthalmological Society (DOG) Congress.
Her poster, titled “Presence of Fibrillar Layer Does not Influence Rebubbling Rates after Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty in advanced Fuchs Endothelial Corneal Dystrophy Eyes,” was selected as one of the prestigious “Posters of the Day”.
Nihan Demiralay’s study examined whether the presence of a fibrillar layer affects rebubbling rates after DMEK surgery in advanced Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD). The findings show that, despite structural differences in affected corneas, the presence of this layer does not influence surgical outcomes — an important insight for corneal surgeons and clinicians.
This recognition highlights the high-quality translational research being conducted at the Department of Ophthalmology and the Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) within the University of Cologne.
Congratulations once again to Nihan Demiralay and her co-authors on this outstanding achievement!
