SFB 1607 Welcomes Dr. Lola Mugisho for Guest Lecture on Inflammasome Biology and Neurodegeneration

SFB 1607 was delighted to welcome Dr. Lola Mugisho from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, for a guest visit and scientific lecture entitled “The Inflammasome in Age-Related Neurodegenerative Diseases.”

Dr. Mugisho is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology, Principal Investigator at the Centre for Brain Research, and Founder and Director of Dawa Therapeutics Ltd. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms driving chronic inflammation in ocular and neurodegenerative diseases, with particular expertise in inflammasome biology, retinal degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, biomarker discovery, and translational drug development.

During her lecture, Dr. Mugisho provided fascinating insights into the role of inflammasomes in age-related neurodegenerative disorders and highlighted emerging therapeutic opportunities to target chronic inflammation and inflammaging. Her interdisciplinary approach, bridging ophthalmology, neuroscience, and therapeutic innovation, sparked great interest among researchers and clinicians alike.

The presentation was followed by a lively and engaging discussion, during which participants exchanged ideas on translational research, novel treatment strategies, and the growing importance of inflammatory pathways in age-related diseases.
