
Insights into Inherited Retinal Diseases: Prof. Omar Mahroo Visits SFB 1607
SFB 1607 was pleased to welcome Prof. Omar Mahroo from Moorfields Eye Hospital and University College London for a guest lecture entitled “Inherited Retinal Disease: Diagnosis, Management, Future Trends.”
Prof. Mahroo is Professor of Retinal Neuroscience at University College London and Consultant Ophthalmologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital. As a clinician-scientist and retinal specialist, his work focuses on understanding retinal function in health and disease, with particular expertise in inherited retinal diseases, retinal electrophysiology, advanced retinal imaging, genetics, and artificial intelligence.
During his lecture, Prof. Mahroo provided a comprehensive overview of the diagnosis and management of inherited retinal diseases, while also highlighting emerging developments that are shaping the future of the field. Drawing on his extensive clinical and research experience, he illustrated how advances in genetics, imaging technologies, and functional testing are transforming patient care and opening new therapeutic possibilities.
