Prof. Jantsch re-elected to the EMDS Executive Board
Prof. Jonathan Jantsch, Director of the Institute for Medical Microbiology, Immunology, and Hygiene at Cologne University Hospital, and subproject leader in the SFB 1607 Project B02 “Role of macrophage-dependent osmoprotective and hypoxic signal transduction in inflammatory corneal diseases,” together with PD Dr. Deniz Hos, has been re-elected for another term as Secretary on the Board of the European Macrophage and Dendritic Cell Society (EMDS). Founded in 1992, the society brings together leading European scientists who conduct research on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells—key cells in our immune system.
Macrophages and dendritic cells play a key role in defending against infections, regulating inflammation, and in immunological therapy strategies, for example in oncology. The EMDS promotes scientific exchange through its annual conferences in different European cities, as well as through targeted programs to support young scientists and research awards.
Prof. Jantsch has been secretary of the EMDS board since 2017. His re-election strengthens the international networking of the University Hospital of Cologne in the field of immunology research. The next EMDS annual conference will take place in Amsterdam this year.
