Guest Professor Giulio Ferrari Visits SFB 1607
As part of its ongoing international scientific exchange, SFB 1607 welcomed Prof. Giulio Ferrari, MD, PhD, as a guest professor for an inspiring visit and lecture. Prof. Ferrari is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Parma and leads the Eye Repair Research Unit, focusing on translational and clinical research in corneal and ocular surface diseases.
In his lecture entitled “Keratoconus: a systemic disease?”, Prof. Ferrari presented emerging evidence that challenges the traditional view of keratoconus as a purely local corneal disorder. By integrating clinical observations with molecular and immunological insights, he stimulated lively discussions on systemic contributions to disease onset and progression.
Beyond the lecture, Prof. Ferrari engaged in intensive scientific exchange with the PIs of SFB 1607. Discussions covered shared research interests, complementary methodologies, and future opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the fields of corneal pathology, inflammation, and regenerative approaches.
With more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and multiple prestigious awards, Prof. Ferrari’s visit provided valuable impulses for ongoing projects within SFB 1607 and strengthened international connections in vision research.
