Assoc. Prof. Stuti Misra Joins SFB 1607 Through a Humboldt Fellowship

SFB 1607 is delighted to welcome Associate Professor Stuti Misra from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, for a multi-month research stay as part of a Humboldt Fellowship.

Assoc. Prof. Misra is an optometrist-scientist in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Auckland. Her research focuses on anterior segment imaging, ocular surface diseases, corneal innervation, tear fluid analysis, and diabetic eye disease. Through the integration of clinical, translational, and interdisciplinary research approaches, she seeks to advance the understanding of ocular surface and corneal disorders and their relationship with systemic disease.

With more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and over NZ$3.8 million in competitive research funding, Assoc. Prof. Misra has established an outstanding international research profile. Her achievements have been recognized through numerous prestigious awards, including the Sir Charles Hercus Health Research Fellowship, the Fulbright New Zealand Scholar Award, the Humboldt Fellowship for Senior Researchers, and the 2024 American Academy of Optometry Foundation Outstanding Emerging Leader Award.

As part of her stay, Assoc. Prof. Misra recently delivered a lecture entitled “When the Ocular Surface Tells a Systemic Story”, highlighting how ocular surface changes can provide important insights into systemic disease processes and discussing current advances in the field.
