International Expertise in Ocular Immunology and Regeneration at SFB 1607

SFB 1607 recently welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Department of Ophthalmology at UMC Utrecht, bringing together internationally recognized experts in ocular immunology, corneal regeneration and translational ophthalmology.

A particular highlight of the visit was the guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Mor Dickman, Professor at the University Medical Center Utrecht. In his presentation, Prof. Dickman shared insights into cutting-edge developments in corneal regeneration, stem cell-based therapies and translational approaches for ocular surface disease. Drawing on his extensive experience in regenerative medicine and large-scale clinical research, he highlighted innovative strategies to improve outcomes for patients with sight-threatening corneal disorders. The lecture was followed by an interactive Journal Club, providing an excellent opportunity for scientific discussion and exchange among researchers and clinicians.

The Utrecht delegation also included Prof. Dr. Joke H. de Boer, one of Europe’s leading experts in uveitis and ocular inflammation, Dr. Marchien G. Dallinga, specialist in corneal biology and angiogenesis, and Prof. Jonas Kuiper, expert in translational immunology and immune-mediated eye diseases.

On Friday, the guests met with members of SFB 1607 and the TEO-C team for a dedicated Science Talk. The session fostered discussions on current research activities, future collaborative opportunities and shared scientific interests across ocular immunology, regenerative medicine and translational research. The exchange further strengthened the close scientific ties between Cologne and Utrecht and opened new perspectives for future interdisciplinary collaborations.
