Prof. Cursiefen Promotes Academic Exchange at the Maternus House Conference 2026
The Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Cologne hosted the annual Maternushaus Meeting on April 25, 2026. The event was chaired by Prof. Dr. Claus Cursiefen, who opened the meeting and emphasized the importance of scientific exchange in ophthalmology.
As part of a comprehensive program covering all subspecialties of ophthalmology, participants were provided with a concise and practice-oriented overview of current developments in diagnostics as well as modern, stage-adapted therapeutic approaches.
The highlight of the meeting was the 9th Maternushaus honorary lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Berthold Seitz (Saarland University Medical Center) on “Latest IC3D Classification and Stage-Adapted Therapy of Corneal Dystrophies.” Prof. Seitz was honoured as internationally known cornea expert who pioneered nonmechanical laser transplant surgery in the cornea.
The event once again underscored the role of the Center of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Cologne as a leading institution in research, teaching, and clinical care in the field of ophthalmology.
The 38th Maternushaus Annual Meeting will take place on February 20, 2027.
