Rotation on the topic of the retina: Bridging the gap between research and clinical practice
In September, as part of our ongoing clinic rotations, an exciting event took place at the Eye Clinic – focusing on the topic of the retina. Under the guidance of Professor Tim U. Krohne, Dr. Vasilena Sitnilska, and Dr. Yuhe Tang, PhD candidates from SFB 1607 had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the clinical diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases and to talk to patients.
This event is part of an extensive rotation series of the SFB 1607 Integrated Graduate School that aims to provide young scientists with a practical link between basic research and clinical application. Highly relevant topics such as glaucoma, eye tumors, and corneal diseases have already been the focus of previous events, and many more interactive events are to follow.
The rotations are interactive and promote direct exchange between researchers and clinicians. This creates a deeper understanding of clinical issues, which in turn strengthens the relevance and focus of scientific work.
This structured connection between the laboratory and the clinic is a central component in the training of our doctoral students in the field of ophthalmology – and is a decisive step towards translational, patient-oriented research.
