Prof. Claus Cursiefen Highlights SFB 1607 at AOI 50th Anniversary Congress

At the 50th Anniversary Congress of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis (AOI), held in Leiden from June 19–21, 2025, SFB Speaker Prof. Claus Cursiefen presented the work and perspectives of the DFG-funded SFB 1607. His talk focused on the opportunities for advancing interdisciplinary ocular research within the collaborative framework of the SFB.

The AOI meeting, themed “From historical Leiden to the future”, gathered leading ophthalmologists from around the world to celebrate both the AOI’s 50-year history and the 450th anniversary of Leiden University. Highlights included scientific and historical sessions, keynote lectures, and celebratory events in the city’s rich cultural setting.

The local organization was led by Prof. Martine Jager, Visiting Professor of SFB 1607 and Secretary General of the AOI. Her efforts brought together a memorable congress that combined scientific excellence with the cultural heritage of Leiden.
