Prof. Jingfa Zhang visits SFB 1607

On Tuesday, 26 August 2025, we were honored to welcome Professor Jingfa Zhang for a guest lecture at the Department of Ophthalmology in Cologne. His talk, entitled “The mechanisms and translational research on DR & DME”, provided valuable insights into the pathophysiology and therapeutic approaches to diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular edema.

Prof. Zhang currently serves as Research Professor and Research Fellow at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Deputy Director of the Primasia International Eye Research Institute. Previously, he held senior positions at the Shanghai Eye Research Institute and Shanghai General Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine.

A distinguished physician-scientist, Prof. Zhang has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and co-edited the book “Therapeutic Targets for Diabetic Retinopathy – A Translational Approach” (Elsevier). His contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Ministry of Education’s Science and Technology Progress Award (2nd prize), and he was named among the World’s Top 2% Scientists in Ophthalmology 2024 by Stanford University.
