SUMMARY:Lecture of Visiting Scientist Ilva Rupenthal
DESCRIPTION:Tackling inflammatory eye diseases – Connexins\, inflammasomes and innovative drug delivery systems\nLecture of Visiting Scientist Ilva Rupenthal\nDr. Ilva Rupenthal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology\, University of Auckland\, New Zealand\, and the Director of the Buchanan Ocular Therapeutics Unit (BOTU)\, which aims to translate ocular therapeutic related scientific research into the clinical setting. She is currently a Humboldt Fellow with the Ocular Surface Group led by Professor Philipp Steven\, Department of Ophthalmology\, Universität zu Köln and Uniklinik Köln\, investigating new therapeutics for ocular Graft-versus-Host Disease (oGvHD).\nIn her presentation\, Ilva will give an overview of the research performed by the BOTU team focusing on the delivery of inflammasome blockers to treat inflammatory eye conditions. The talk will highlight various drug delivery approaches as well as preclinical models used to translate these ocular therapeutics from bench to bedside before outlining the rational for using an inflammasome blocker eyedrop to treat oGvHD. \nWhere?\nDepartment of Ophthalmology – Building 34 – Lecture Hall \n to Google Maps \nto the site plan

SUMMARY:Lecture of Visiting Professor Joanna Maria Kalucka
DESCRIPTION:Vascular Dysfunction in Cardiometabolic Diseases\nLecture of Visiting Professor Joanna Maria Kalucka\nProf. Dr. Joanna Maria Kalucka currently serves as an Associate Professor and Group Leader of the Laboratory of Angiogenesis and Inflammation at the Department of Biomedicine\, Aarhus University\, Denmark. Prior to this role\, she held postdoctoral positions at KU Leuven in Belgium and Uniklinikum Erlangen in Germany. This summer she is a visiting professor at the Institute of Medical Microbiology\, Immunology and Hygiene (Prof. J. Jantsch) within the guest professorship program of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cologne. \nMs. Kalucka’s research focuses on the heterogeneity and functionality of endothelial cells in cardiovascular diseases and the role of endothelial cells in inflammatory responses. Her lab aims to unravel the basic mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and investigate the consequences of impaired vascular systems in cancer\, obesity\, and inflammation. \nTo achieve these goals\, the lab employs a wide range of approaches\, including state-of-the-art multi-omics technologies (single-cell and spatial RNA sequencing\, proteomics\, and metabolomics)\, organoid cultures of human and animal origin\, cell-based experimental models\, molecular techniques\, and mathematical modeling and simulation. \nWhere?\nDepartment of Ophthalmology – Building 34 – Lecture Hall \n to Google Maps \nto the site plan
